Apart from high speciality areas such as cardiac and
neuro-surgery, surgeons at Ruby also undertake a variety of relatively minor
but popular repair work of the body like appendix removal surgery and
thyroid surgery. In many cases patients can be released after a few hours on
day-care beds. At the other end of the spectrum, there are emergency
surgical cases for patients in intensive care or coming through the
Emergency Department.

Ruby believes that care delayed is care denied. This motto finds its
greatest relevance at the Intensive Care (ICU) and Intensive Therapy (ITU)
Units where every second is precious. The ICU specialises in cardiac cases
while non-cardiac patients like trauma victims and severe diabetics are
admitted in the ITU.
At the Units, both bedside as well as centralized monitoring is done
throughout with each patient having his own dedicated life support and
monitoring unit. Artificial Ventilation, temporary pacing, as well as
equipment for instantaneous blood gas analysis are available within the ICU
to save time. Resident Medical Officers (RMOs) are always on duty for
supervision and constantly update the respective consultants about their
patients' treatment and response.

Antibiotic Policy
Fumigation, autoclaving and infection control are done regularly and
rigorously, following ISO norms. Ruby General is the only hospital in
Eastern India to rigorously follow an Antibiotic Policy. Ruby's Antibiotic
Policy guides the consultants on the most effective drug to be used on a
patient leading to faster recovery and therefore helping to keep medicine
costs low.
